Although I swore I wouldn't read it, I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It gave me nightmares. But, I think I'll read a sequel or maybe even two.
Would I read a sequel to The Road? It still makes my flesh crawl. But I did get a kick out of reading the blog Yelping with Cormac, restaurant reviews written in the style of Cormac McCarthy.

OK, so the last suggestion was a stinker. Let's take Susy's suggestion, read the last 100 pages and talk about that. How about that and something we actually like?

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
Empire of the Ants by Bernard Werber
Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, by Laura Hillenbrand
The Borrower by Rebecca Makai

The No Review Book Review
OK,I seem to be the only one who wasn't particularly fond of Island Under the Sea, its one dimensional characters, or derivative plot. Somebody who has something nice to say can add it to this post.

Where are all the haters?
Seems that there were some very strong opinions about the book, The Big Short. But only those who liked it showed up for the meeting. Maybe one of you "haters" would like to put your opinion in this space!

And the winner is.....
.....after a single round of voting.....The Big Short.
Go get your copy this weekend and we'll see you for discussion (and perhaps an anger management class) in a few weeks.

Time for Non-Fiction
It looks like maybe there's a trend towards non-fiction this month. With lots of suggestions, let's plan to finish 1st round of voting by Friday 5pm. If a run-off is necessary, let's plan to close the polls at 5pm on Sunday.
Suggestions are:
The Citadel by A.J. Cronin
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen
Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
The Big Short by Michael Lewis
Packing for Mars by Mary Roach
Why This World: A Biography of Clarice Lispector

That was fantastic!
We had a discussion! At the meeting itself! People liked the book, even though it was Einat's suggestion. Unbelievable. Now how would someone like to write a short review for this space?

Need Some Rules!!
Listen, we need some rules. No more of this "practice talk" before the meeting. Discussion should wait at least until the drinks are poured!

Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen
The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
Let's close the first round of voting Wednesday, 5pm
